By John Flanagan
I know I keep on saying this, but this really is one of my favorite books of all time. And if not my favorite book, it’s the start of one of my favorite books series. John Flanagan does an excellent job, and he seems to never stop writing. So if you end up liking this book, you’ll have so so much more to read.
This is the story of a boy named Will. A boy who has always wanted to be a knight. Unfortunately, when it comes time for apprentices to be chosen, Will is not chosen by the Battlemaster. In fact, he’s not chosen at all. But just when everything seems like it will fall apart, he is apprenticed to a Ranger.
Will doesn’t know much about the Rangers. No one knows much about the Rangers. Some say that they’re magicians. Some say that they’re hunters. Others just avoid them. But when Will becomes the apprentice of the Ranger Halt, he realizes that the Rangers are the protectors of the kingdom and the eyes and ears of King Duncan. So maybe they’re not so bad.
So Will learns how to become a Ranger. Archery, camouflage, spying, tracking, cooking, it’s all included. All so that when the kingdom is actually in danger (which might happen sooner rather than later) he can step up to protect it.
This book is amazing if you like fantasy. Or friendship. Or action. Or amazing mentor-student relationships. You will demand the rest of the books in the series, which is great because they’re all already written. Then you’ll turn to the spin off series. Then you’ll get obsessed, like me. And all my siblings.
Please read this book. You won’t regret it. 🙂
